2007年に結成されたエレクトロ・デュオ「80KIDZ（エイティーキッズ）」の新作EP『LOON EP（ルーン イーピー）』が、日本を代表するダンスミュージックレーベル〈TREKKIE TRAX〉より2026年9月18日にリリースされた。
80KIDZは、DJユニットとして活動をスタートし、国内外のさまざまなアーティストとの共演を経て楽曲制作を開始。2000年代のフレンチ／ユーロ・エレクトロやインディー・ロックからインスパイアされた独自のサウンドで注目を集め、これまでに6作のフル・アルバムをはじめ数多くの作品を発表してきた。DJ／ライブアクトとして大型フェスにも多数出演し、ジャンルやシーンの垣根を越えて活動を続けている。2026年8月には、約5年ぶりとなるフル・アルバム『CUTOUT』をリリースしたばかりだ。
本作は、これまで近いシーンに身を置きながらも、深く交わる機会のなかった80KIDZと〈TREKKIE TRAX〉によるコラボレーションから始動。異なる世代やコミュニティが交差することで、新たなクラブカルチャーへのアプローチを生み出し、国内のダンスミュージックシーンをさらに活性化させたい、そんな思いから生まれた一作となっている。
サウンドの軸となるのは、00年代中盤から10年代初頭にかけてのフィジェット・ハウスやフレンチ／ユーロ・エレクトロ。さらにIDMからも着想を得ながら、当時の荒々しい熱量やサウンドデザインを現代的な感覚で再解釈し、現在のクラブフロアで機能する音像へとアップデートしている。トリッキーなエディット、歪んだウォブルベース、エモーショナルなシンセワークなど、80KIDZのルーツにあるエレクトロの要素を色濃く反映しながら、フロアでの即効性とグルーヴを兼ね備えた作品に仕上がった。
表題曲「Loon（ルーン）」は、00年代IDMを彷彿とさせる緻密なエディットと実験的な質感を軸に、現代的なエレクトロサウンドとクラブフロアに直結する力強い鳴りを融合したトラック。続く「Makko（マッコ）」は、印象的なボイスサンプルによるフックと、00年代後半のフィジェット・ハウス／ベースミュージックを思わせる歪んだベースを軸に展開する、ファンキーかつインダストリアルな疾走感を持った一曲。「Decade（ディケイド）」では、2000年代中盤のフレンチ／ユーロ・エレクトロ黄金期を象徴するアンセムの熱狂的なドライヴ感と、現代的でエモーショナルなコードワークを融合。過去へのオマージュにとどまらず、当時のエネルギーを現在のクラブミュージックとして再構築している。

Formed in 2007, electro duo 80KIDZ are set to release their new EP *LOON EP* via Tokyo-based dance music label TREKKIE TRAX on September 18, 2026.
80KIDZ began their career as a DJ unit before moving into music production after performing alongside a wide range of artists in Japan and abroad. Drawing inspiration from 2000s French and European electro as well as indie rock, they quickly gained attention for their distinctive sound. Since then, they have released six full-length albums alongside numerous other projects, while continuing to perform at major festivals as both DJs and a live act. In August 2026, they released *CUTOUT*, their first full-length album in approximately five years.
*LOON EP* began as a collaboration between 80KIDZ and TREKKIE TRAX, two names that have long occupied neighboring spaces within Japan’s electronic music scene without previously having the opportunity to work closely together. The project was born from a shared desire to bring different generations and communities into contact, explore new approaches to club culture, and further energize Japan’s dance music scene.
At the core of the EP are the sounds of mid-2000s to early-2010s fidget house and French/European electro. Taking additional inspiration from IDM, 80KIDZ revisit the raw energy and sound design of that era through a contemporary lens, reshaping those influences for today’s club floors. Intricate edits, distorted wobble bass, and emotive synth work reflect the electro roots that have long informed the duo’s music, while the tracks retain a strong sense of immediacy, groove, and functionality in the club.
The title track, “Loon,” combines intricate edits and experimental textures reminiscent of 2000s IDM with contemporary electro production and a powerful, club-focused sound.
“Makko” is driven by an instantly recognizable vocal hook and heavily distorted bass inspired by late-2000s fidget house and bass music, resulting in a fast-moving track that feels both funky and industrial.
“Decade,” meanwhile, channels the euphoric drive of anthems from the mid-2000s golden age of French and European electro, combining that energy with emotive, contemporary chord work. Rather than simply looking back, the track reframes the spirit of that era as present-day club music.
The EP also features three remixes: Guchon reworks “Loon” on “Loon (Guchon Remix),” 64controll takes on “Makko” with “Makko (64controll Remix),” and TREKKIE TRAX’s label crew delivers “Decade (TREKKIE TRAX CREW Remix).”
Bringing together 80KIDZ’s roots in 2000s electro with the language of contemporary club music, *LOON EP* captures a meeting point between past and present. Across three original tracks and three distinct remixes, the EP presents multiple perspectives on the same shared energy.
