TREKKIE TRAX is a Japanese dance music label founded in 2012 under the slogan “Japanese Music to the World.” Working alongside track makers from across Japan, the label has continuously pushed forward cutting-edge dance music unconstrained by existing genres or formats. Over the past 13 years, TREKKIE TRAX has released more than 200 titles and approximately 1,000 tracks, building an extensive catalog that has earned acclaim from DJs and listeners not only in Japan, but around the world.
While rooted in bass music, the label’s output spans house, techno, juke, electronica, pop, and hip-hop, receiving support from a remarkably wide spectrum of artists — from EDM superstars such as Skrillex, Diplo, Martin Garrix, DJ Snake, and Porter Robinson, to influential underground figures including Ben UFO, Hyperdub founder Kode9, and globally respected broadcaster, selector, and jazz curator Gilles Peterson. The label’s first best-of compilation, “TREKKIE TRAX THE BEST 2012–2015,” received a score of 7.4 from the internationally renowned music publication Pitchfork, further solidifying the label’s reputation as a rare entity capable of bridging both EDM and underground dance music worlds.
Internationally, TREKKIE TRAX successfully completed a six-show U.S. tour across three cities in 2016, and appeared at the afterparty for Porter Robinson & Madeon’s Shelter Live Tour in San Francisco, as well as SXSW in Austin, Texas. The label’s artists have also performed as support acts for events featuring PC Music, Lido, DJ Paypal, Machinedrum, Addison Groove, and DJ Sliink, while touring throughout the United States, Australia, China, South Korea, and Taiwan, captivating audiences worldwide.
Within Japan, the label has also established a strong presence in mainstream music culture. “EXCITE” by Daichi Miura — the theme song for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, co-produced by Carpainter — received the Excellent Work Award at the 59th Japan Record Awards. Other notable works include “Gakkou Ikeya A゛” by ATARASHII GAKKO!, co-produced alongside Aimyon, and “Kanousei” by Official HIGE DANdism, produced by Masayoshi Iimori. TREKKIE TRAX artists have also contributed production and remix work for major Japanese acts including THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE, Reol, 4s4ki, m-flo, tofubeats, and DOZAN11 a.k.a. Miki Dōzan, demonstrating a presence that transcends scenes and genres.
At the center of the label is the DJ/producer collective TREKKIE TRAX CREW, which has appeared at major festivals including FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’24 & ’25, ULTRA JAPAN (2015, 2022–2025), and EDC Japan 2019, while also actively organizing nationwide label tours and showcase events. The collective also hosted “TREKKIE TRAX RADIO” for many years on Japan’s leading online dance music station block.fm, and has additionally hosted a resident program on Gilles Peterson’s London-based radio station Worldwide FM, further strengthening its presence within global dance music culture.
In recent years, TREKKIE TRAX CREW contributed a mix and was featured by DJ MAG, while releases from the label have also been covered by leading international media outlets such as Mixmag and Resident Advisor, continuing to expand the label’s global recognition. Through label parties in Tokyo, TREKKIE TRAX has invited international artists including Tommy Holohan, BIG DOPE P, and Neffa-T, while also releasing music by and organizing Japan performances for artists such as Roska, Kush Jones, L-VIS 1990, JIALING, Sonia Calico, and Hodge. In doing so, the label has functioned as a bridge connecting Japan’s underground scene with dance music communities around the world.
Through releases, events, media platforms, and the cultivation of international networks, TREKKIE TRAX continues to embody dance music from Japan on a global level, standing as one of the defining label collectives of contemporary Japanese club culture.
