Genichiroは、blackglassG名義での活動を経て、よりダンスフロアに照準を合わせるため、2022年に現在の名義へ改名。ハウスミュージックを軸に、AfrobeatsやUK Funkyなどのグルーヴを取り入れたダンスミュージックを制作・プレイしている。
本作『Reflection EP』は、The Neptunes、Timbaland、Rodney Jerkinsといった1990年代後半から2000年代を代表するプロデューサーたちの、パーカッションの配置やシンコペーション、余白を活かしたリズムアプローチを、現代的なアフロ・クラブサウンドやUK Funky、ハウスミュージックへと落とし込んだ意欲作。
表題曲「Reflection（リフレクション）」では、ハウスミュージックを土台に、Dubの空間的な音響と現行のアフロ・クラブサウンドから着想を得たパーカッシブなグルーヴを融合。ピックアップ曲「Swaying Reed（スウェイングリード）」では、Timbalandに代表される1990年代後半から2000年代のパーカッシブなR&Bトラックを想起させるリズムと、現行のUK Funkyを接続している。
また「Surface（サーフェイス）」では、ブロークンなビートとアブストラクトな音像を組み合わせ、足元が絶えず揺れ動くような不規則なグルーヴを構築。一方の「Clay Motion（クレイモーション）」では、反復的なリズムと荒々しくクランクしたエネルギーを前面に押し出している。楽曲ごとに異なる角度からリズムと身体性を掘り下げながら、Genichiroがこれまでに受けてきた音楽的影響を現在のダンスフロアへと映し返す作品集となっている。
さらに、ベルリンを拠点に活動するペルー系アメリカ人DJ／プロデューサーであり、〈Rinse Recordings〉や〈Scuffed Recordings〉などから作品を発表してきた「Farsight（ファーサイト）」による「Surface (Farsight Remix)（サーフェイス ファーサイトリミックス）」を収録。原曲のブロークンなリズムとアブストラクトな音像を活かしながら、鋭く立体的なビートにダビーな空気感を取り入れたDubstep、Dark Garageなクラブトラックへと再構築している。
また、〈TREKKIE TRAX〉主宰の一人であり、東京拠点のDJ／プロデューサー「andrew（アンドリュー）」による「Swaying Reed (andrew Remix)（スウェイングリード アンドリューリミックス）」も収録。原曲が持つ00年代R&B由来のパーカッシブなグルーヴを継承しながら、BmoreとFunky Houseのリズムをハイブリッドにミックスしたandrewならではのバウンシーなビートアプローチによって、フロアユースかつ新たな方向へと展開している。

Genichiro, a Kobe-born, Tokyo-based DJ and producer, releases his new EP Reflection EP on September 4, 2026, via TREKKIE TRAX, one of Japan’s leading dance music labels.
After working under the name blackglassG, Genichiro adopted his current alias in 2022 to sharpen his focus on the dancefloor. Building on a foundation of house music, he produces and plays dance music that draws in grooves from Afrobeats, UK Funky and beyond.
Reflection EP takes the rhythmic approaches of producers who defined the late 1990s through the 2000s — The Neptunes, Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins — with their percussion placement, syncopation and use of negative space, and channels them into contemporary Afro-club sounds, UK Funky and house.
The title track “Reflection” builds on a house foundation, fusing the spatial acoustics of dub with a percussive groove informed by current Afro-club sounds. The featured cut “Swaying Reed” connects rhythms recalling the percussive R&B of the late 1990s and 2000s — Timbaland chief among them — with present-day UK Funky.
“Surface” pairs broken beats with an abstract sound image, constructing an irregular groove that keeps shifting underfoot. “Clay Motion,” by contrast, pushes repetitive rhythms and a raw, cranked-up energy to the front. Digging into rhythm and physicality from a different angle on each track, the EP reflects the musical influences Genichiro has absorbed back onto today’s dancefloor.
The record also includes “Surface (Farsight Remix)” by Farsight, the Berlin-based Peruvian-American DJ and producer who has released on Rinse Recordings and Scuffed Recordings, among others. Keeping the original’s broken rhythms and abstract sound image intact, he rebuilds it into a sharp, three-dimensional club track laced with dubby atmosphere, landing somewhere between dubstep and dark garage.
Rounding out the EP is “Swaying Reed (andrew Remix)” by andrew, a Tokyo-based DJ and producer and one of the heads of TREKKIE TRAX. Inheriting the percussive, 2000s R&B-derived groove of the original, he takes it somewhere new with his signature bouncy beat approach, hybridizing Bmore and funky house rhythms into a floor-ready rework.
